Importance of Self-Care:
Today I want to talk about the importance of Self-Care during pregnancy. In my experience, there are certain things you can do for yourself to ensure that you stay healthy and stress free.
The first step is getting organized.
Organization is key to success. Plan ahead of time and stick to that plan. Rent your favorite movie and get a bag of popcorn and then schedule time to watch it. Or start a routine of taking a quiet bath every night and make sure everyone knows this is your “me time” so they are not allowed to disturb you.
The second step is remembering to eat properly. Eating healthy food can help replenish your energy throughout the day as well as give the baby the proper nutrients he/she needs. For example, a diet that contains vegetables, grains, fruits, dairy, & proteins will give your body the proper nutrients both of you need to stay healthy.
The third step is getting enough rest. During your pregnancy, your body goes through a lot of stress and let’s face it, after the baby arrives you won’t be getting as much sleep as you would hope so. Relaxing and getting enough rest while you’re pregnant is important to stay healthy.
The key to the final step is having enough support. With a newborn baby a woman can become very overwhelmed because the baby needs constant care. With a good support system the woman can benefit more than trying to do everything alone. Like they always say, “It takes a village to raise a baby!” Ask your partner, family member, or friends to help you when needed.
