Youth will have an opportunity to participate.

A Variety of performances by youth both independemt as well as
groups from Detroit arts programs.

Dilla Youth Day is a participatory annual event celebrating
and sharing the legacy of one of the most prolific Music
Producers in history. thestudioArena Mobile Maker Space
combines the unique genius traditions of Hip Hop’s powerful
musical, visual, and performing arts, with the genius
engineers, hackers, innovators of DIY Making and Maker
Spaces to catalyze the energy of youth, teen and adult
communities to create an experience of innovation in
sound, lighting, and motion technology.
Based on the “Disco-Tech” (discovering technology)
model created by The Detroit Digitial Justice Technology
Coalition that bridges the digital divide by helping
underserved communities gain access to technology. DYD
began at 5eGallery in 2010 led by Piper Carter co-Founder
of The Foundation of Women in Hip Hop (We Found Hip
Hop). The event experienced such phenomenal growth
that it was moved to The Charles H. Wright Museum of
African American History to increase its capacity to provide
access.

About J Dilla
J Dilla is a significant African American Musical Producer who created the genre Neo-Soul and revolutionized the sound of 90’s Hip Hop. He accelerated the careers of successful artists such as Erykah Badu, Common, Talib Kweli, DeLaSoul, Janet Jackson, and influenced many others up to our current generation.

Participation can include but is not limited to one or more of the following:
• Hosting a hands-on open workstation
• Providing in-kind support
• Providing financial support
• Providing materials such as computers, arts supplies, sound equipment
• Attending with your youth group.

 Benefits of Participation include but not limited to:
• Opportunity to participate in free workshops with Professional Music Producers who have worked with Prominenet Recording Artists
• Leadership Development Workshops
• S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) workshops such as robotics, electronics, software, and design
• Hip Hop workshops promoting Positive Self Image, Community Gardening, and Building Healthy Communities
• Opportunity to build Cross Cultural connections with youth across the region through participation in activities that promote Cultural Literacy
• Opportunity for Organizations to present the successful models of their programs and current work to a larger audience utiliing an active engagement approach
• Opportunity to perform
